Building a Custom Home? Here’s Why Premium Materials Are Worth the Investment

Date

Whether you’ve already made the decision to build a custom home, or you’re doing some research; understanding why quality matters is important.

Building a home that’s completely customized to your tastes and lifestyle is exciting. On move-in day, you’ll walk into a home that’s unlike anyone else’s.

At Custom Homes by Modern Structure, we are committed to building homes, using high quality, durable materials from reputable suppliers. We want you to get the home of your dreams, without compromising.

In this blog we explore the reasons why choosing quality building materials and finishes matters.

Why Should You Choose More Expensive, Quality Materials?

During the home design process, it can be tempting to cut corners to shave off a few dollars here and there. And while cutting costs can help lower the initial cost of your new home, it can end up costing you more in the long run.

Below are the top 5 reasons why it pays to choose quality materials over low-cost materials. 1.Durability

Materials and finishes that are lower-cost and lower-quality just don’t last as long. Cutting corners lowers the initial cost of your home, but you’ll likely find yourself replacing or repairing low quality materials often.

Siding, for example, is one material you should never skimp on. A good quality vinyl or solid composite siding will still look amazing in ten years. An inexpensive siding will need to be replaced, re-finished, or repaired in a much shorter time span.

2. Sustainability

Prominent, higher end building material suppliers typically have more sustainable manufacturing practices. Not only do they make their products in a more eco-friendly way, their products tend to help you save more energy.

A large part of our building philosophy is based on sustainability. Whenever we can, we steer our customers towards more sustainable floor plans, building materials, and finishes.

For example, we are committed to installing high SEER rated furnaces and air conditioning systems, tankless water heaters, and energy efficient lighting and appliances. All of this equipment does cost more upfront, but the money you’ll save on utility bills over time far outweighs that cost.

3. Aesthetics and Curb Appeal

This is your home, and you’re going to be looking at it for years to come. This is your chance to design the luxurious, sophisticated home you’ve dreamed of.

Plain and simple: quality materials look better. In most cases, you can spot quality flooring, lighting, paint, and appliances from a mile away. There’s a certain “wow” factor you get from walking across a real-wood floor, or cooking with top-tier appliances.

When it comes to curb appeal, choosing premium siding, exterior doors, roofing, stone / brick veneers, and landscaping makes a huge difference.

4. Return on Investment

Including high quality building materials and finishes in your home is a solid investment for two reasons.

One, the more durable and efficient something is, the longer it will last. This means fewer repairs over its lifetime and less money spent on hiring labor to make those repairs or replacements.

Two, a home built with quality materials has more value than one built with low quality materials. If you choose to sell your home in the future, you’ll get a much higher return on your investment if your home is built using premium products and finishes.

5. Warranties

Most of the time, warranties covering cheaper products aren’t nearly as good as warranties covering premium products. This means; for example, you are better protected should something happen to your roof that’s installed with quality materials.
