Project Spotlight: Modern Cabin in Evansville, Indiana Area

Modern, cozy and comfortable come together quite well in this secluded cabin that rests among the trees. This contemporary modern family cabin was built just on the outskirts of the Evansville, Indiana area to be a quiet retreat from the chaos of everyday life. In this blog, we’re taking you on a virtual tour of this project, and walking you through all of the ways you could benefit from building one for yourself.

What is a Modern Cabin?

A cabin, typically built from wood, rests in the woods or in some other remote location. You’re likely familiar with the concept, and may have even lived in, or rented a cabin before.

Because we build homes with a keen focus on modern style and energy efficiency, we took inspiration from the standard cabin concept, and designed this clean, energy efficient, modern cabin, complete with the latest trends in building materials, colors and functionality.

The sleek exterior of the Modern Cabin is both eye-catching and natural. Built with sustainability in mind, we used natural building materials such as locally milled woods, and locally manufactured and fabricated products.

Purchasing local products keeps our costs down by reducing transportation expenses, packaging, and extra labor expenses. And by using locally sourced materials, we can reduce the amount of harmful emissions entering the air from transportation.

Modern Cabin Exterior Features

Just like the custom homes we design and build, this modern cabin is designed to be energy efficient during all seasons.

  • The 6” thick slab foundation & bond-beam footing is fully insulated with a continuous thermal break throughout the building envelope, keeping energy and heat loss to a minimum.
  • High R-Value & beyond minimal thickness open cell spray foam was used for all walls and the ceiling, making this Modern Cabin a very well insulated space.
  • Rain Water is collected from the roof through a double filter system and is stored in a 1,200-gallon poly cistern tank to supply all the water needs in the home aside from drinking water.  Access to clean water in this remote area isn’t a problem for us!

Not only is our modern cabin built environmentally friendly, it sits on hundreds of acres of land providing more room for playtime, relaxation, or future expansion. In addition to the expansive land surrounding the cabin, a 384 square foot screened in entertainment space makes for a cool, shaded outdoor entertainment space that overlooks a beautiful private lake.

The cabin’s numerous large windows allow for spectacular views of the trees and natural light to enter the interior. When you’re looking for a place to unwind and connect with the great outdoors, this is the place to be.

When you step inside the Modern Cabin, you’re immediately surrounded by a gorgeous mix of metals, natural wood and polished concrete. The tall ceilings make the space feel open, yet warm and inviting.  Our goal was to focus on the beauty of the outdoors, so we included several large windows for a great view in every room & direction.

Modern Cabin Interior Features

A total of 1,716 square feet is under roof, with 1,332 square feet of that being living space. The cabin was built with an open concept focus and attention to making areas multi-functional and flexible for many other uses.

The common living area blends lounging with dining, entertaining, and cooking. In this space, you’ll see black metal, bare sealed concrete, bare rainbow poplar walls, stair treads and tables throughout.

The kitchen area is designed to be an efficient loft style, with concrete countertops, storage shelving above, plenty of cabinet space, with toe-kick storage and energy efficient appliances.  Adjoining the kitchen area is a large family style dining table perfect for eating, working, or entertainment.

Also on the first level is a single bedroom for peaceful sleeping and quiet time, and a large shared bathroom that’s easy to keep clean with bare concrete and Truss-Core Poly Wall & Ceiling Panels.

Above the common area and kitchen is a large, 372 square foot industrial style loft. The loft is the perfect flex-space; that can be used for rest, playing games, reading, exercising, and more.
