Uses and Advantages of a Post Frame Building or Detached Structure

If you’re looking for some extra space to store a motor vehicle, entertain friends or get away from it all, a detached structure built right on your property is a great way to make it happen. A detached structure is called several different things. You’ve probably heard terms like “pole barn”, “detached garage” or “post frame building”. All of these encompass the category of “detached structures”. Oftentimes, these buildings are designed to be more basic. At Modern Structure, we take detached structures as seriously as we take our custom homes. When you build a detached structure with Modern Structure, you are getting a fully custom building that is both multi-functional and beautiful.

What is a Post Frame Building?

The term “post frame” is actually the manner in which a pole barn or other detached structure is built. A post frame building is typically built using a combination of strong wood posts that interlock together and heavy roof trusses with heavy-duty, metal roofing covering them. These buildings are made to be strong and sturdy. A non-living detached structure (one you don’t live in) usually won’t have many interior walls, but will have large open areas well suited for agricultural and industrial purposes. A living detached structure (one you can live in) will have more walls, separating the rooms, and will be more expensive.

Post frame buildings can be finished out to suit many different uses, and at Modern Structure, we build them to be functional and unique. Our detached structures are built to last and designed to be low maintenance and environmentally friendly.

Advantages of a Modern Structure Post Frame Building

We are a trusted post frame and detached structure builder in the Evansville, Indiana area. With over 20 years of experience in the building industry; we build them to last a lifetime. If you’re looking to build a post frame building on your property, there are advantages on your side.

  • Post Frame Buildings are *Sometimes More Affordable

A non-living detached structure (one that you don’t live in) tends to be more affordable than a typical stick built home. A stick built home includes a foundation and several load bearing walls that increases the cost of the home. So if you are looking to build a post frame building for purposes other than living in it; you can likely save some cash! We do want to be sure you know that certain finishes, upgrades and customizations will increase your cost. For more information on detached structure design options; contact us to schedule a free consultation. We can walk you through the entire process.

  • A Modern Structure Detached Structure is Built to Last

A post frame building is designed to be incredibly resilient. The structure itself can bend and sway with the wind and carry heavy loads. We take that a step further to ensure that your detached structure is not only strong and beautiful; but is built sustainably to protect the environment throughout the building’s life.

  • We Design Them to be Unique

You deserve a detached structure that is as unique as you are. We are committed to making your building as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. A Modern Structure post frame building is fully custom and completely finished out. This includes electric, plumbing, insulation, windows, doors, flooring, paint and more. Upon completion, you can start using it right away.

  • Your Detached Structure Can be Multifunctional

If you are looking to build a non-living post frame building on your property, you will likely have very few, if any, walls inside. This leaves you with a large, multifunctional space that can adapt to your changing needs.

  • Often, Post Frame Builds Come With a Shorter Construction Time

Because post frame buildings don’t require a foundation and sometimes won’t require many load bearing walls; construction time can be considerably shorter than a usual stick built building. If you are building a living post frame building; construction time may be about the same as a typical stick frame home; since it will require more walls to separate rooms.
